The price of gas is now about 20% lower than it was, in real terms, in 1976.
Since 1980, the Consumer Price index has more than doubled, while gas prices
have risen a measly 28%.
That means it's a lot cheaper to buy gas now than it was in 1976, and way
cheaper than in 1980. Environmental costs not included.
