Dr. Andrew Weil, an M.D. with a major interest in alternative medicine, has a newsletter and web site, www.drweil.com. I find his thoughts and recommendations excellent. He believes western medicine is a "powerful tool" and also looks at Asian/folk/herbal ideas and remedies, evaluating them, whenever possible, using western scientific double blind studies.
He's "controversial" because he thinks the body often, if given a chance, can heal itself. Likes the ideas of meditation, relaxation exercises, acupuncture, and, oh yeah, explains coherently why colon cleansers and shark cartilage are a waste of money but why, say, St. John's Wort, isn't.
