"Bill would label jails low-income housing"

by Rick Klein, [Boston] Globe Staff

"It's housing all right, and it sure is affordable--at least to those who live there.

But to housing advocates, there's something amiss and even a tad offensive about a bill sponsored by Representative John H. Rogers, the House's chief budget writer.

Rogers wants jail and prison inmates counted as low-income housing units..."

Liberals are outraged!

"'It certainly feels dodgy,' said Ellen Ober, a leader with the Greater Boston Interfaith Organization. 'It just doesn't sit well...'"

The big news in "progressive" Massachusetts is that the governor, Jane Swift, gave birth to twins. The press has treated her as some feminist icon for working motherhood. Down the memory hole: Shortly before going into labor, Swift pushed a welfare "reform" measure that would require mothers with children as young as age two (down from age six) to work at least 30 (up from 20) hourse a week to get any kind of state assistance. This literally sentences some children to death. Question: Is there any other state with "workfare" requirements this malicious?
