Service Employees International Union, the nation's fastest growing labor organization representing more than 1.4 million workers, seeks a Technical Coordinator for its Washington, DC headquarters. Under the direction of the SEIU Information Manager, the Technical Coordinator will coordinate the development and implementation of Internet and other technology solutions for organizing, bargaining, and political action. Responsibilities will include:

* Providing technical assistance as needed and serving as technical liaison to vendors and consultants for SEIU's Web site development, including our innovative use of a database-driven web-site development program for SEIU local unions, Locals Online, and project for other SEIU departments. Duties include a limited amount of software development, such as building or modifying Access databases.

* Monitoring and evaluating SEIU's ongoing use of technology for organizing political campaigns, to ensure that implemented solutions are effective.

* Researching and evaluating new technologies, such as PDAs and mapping software, to devise the most effective tools and solutions for use in Internet communications for organizing, bargaining, and political action.

Requirements:

* At least five years' experience in information technology, with significant professional experience in the use of new technology for community advocacy. Experience in database management required. Experience in developing Web sites and providing technical support for building online audience and community preferred.

* A high level of judgment is required; must be able to work with elected leaders and staff in complex situations. Excellent oral and written communication skills preferred. Must be able to act and organize time with extreme independence. Must be able to handle multiple priority projects, coordinate the work of others, and meet established deadlines. Must be available for occasional travel with overnight stays sometimes required.

* Previous experience with advocacy organizations, union organizing campaigns, or political campaigns highly desirable.
