There could be ties--I'll have to ask my officemate, whose wife works for Southern Poverty. (It seems unlikely to me that they would, since the LoS has a strong regional vocation that I don't think libertarians would support. But I wouldn't be surprised.)
vMI orbits the peripheries of Auburn, though it has been very "active" in the Economics dept., especially since the latter had it's Ph.D. chopped off because one of its supporters publicly criticized Auburn's board of trustees. It gives huge sums of money for faculty lines and research.
