"A brains-trust of retired military-intelligence officers of Pakistan continues to guide and direct the Taliban's resistance against the US and its effective Psywar against the US without any action being taken them by Musharraf. They have also succeeded in frustrating the covert actions of the CIA as was seen during the capture and execution of Abdul Haq by the Taliban. There are strong reasons to suspect that the "Dawn" (November 10) interview of Hamid Mir with bin Laden, in which the latter claimed to be in possession of nuclear and chemical weapons, was organised by this brains-trust inside Pakistani territory and not at an undisclosed destination five hours drive from Kabul as claimed by Hamid Mir. They chose the "Dawn" for the publication of the English text of this interview in view of the high credibility enjoyed by it in the West. bin Laden, who is extremely security-conscious, would not have agreed to receive Hamid Mir in the midst of the "war" without guarantees from this brains-trust that Mir was absolutely dependable."
