Pure Stupidity? Something Else?

. . . Likud is a legitimate party, even though it grew out of terrorist paramilitaries. Therefore, US hostility to Hezbollah can't logically stem from its own roots as a paramilitary organization. It must be something else. Seth

I'd be happy to participate in boiling the Likud in a vat of matzoh ball soup, but the solution to this contradition is simple. Likud has state power; Hezb doesn't, and isn't any great shakes in any case. So one need not bother with recognizing the latter, while one cannot avoid dealing with the former. If the Likud drove airplanes into U.S. skyscrapers, natch state-to-state relations would undergo a chill. Sinking the Liberty, or blowing up the Cole, OTOH, were slights that could be tolerated.
