I'd be happy to participate in boiling the Likud in a vat of matzoh ball soup, but the solution to this contradition is simple. Likud has state power; Hezb doesn't, and isn't any great shakes in any case. So one need not bother with recognizing the latter, while one cannot avoid dealing with the former. If the Likud drove airplanes into U.S. skyscrapers, natch state-to-state relations would undergo a chill. Sinking the Liberty, or blowing up the Cole, OTOH, were slights that could be tolerated.
