There are several possibilities. If the U.S. state finds a way to quit fairly quickly, without troops stationed in hostile territory, then nothing we have to say will cut any ice. Nothing we could have done (as well as nothing we did do) cut any ice in the Gulf War.
But it it develops into a protracted struggle of some sort, then the only thing that will cut any ice is a simple No. I won't argue for that here but simply state it as a prediction.
