Brett's good post.

Below I repeat what Brett said earlier, because those of us fool enough to approach this in a "we" vein should at least be using this line. He absolutely nailed it on the button, (except the democratic reforms are a form of clonialism these days) as far as "we" thinking can go.

Here's the rub: They don't care what you say. They do what they want. We need to make the war too costly politically. Their is no point in negotiating with people for a fair price for the peace in the world, when they readily state that a good proce for crushing Iraq is 1.5 million children. That's the inhumanity of our opponents. they do not represent us, this is not a democracy and they are noot protecting us. They are taking us all down a suicidal road that will kill us all until we realise who they fucking damn well are. And too many of us believe them. Don't believe anything they say about this war, not a word. The administration already told us in Dubya's speech that this war will not be talked about. I've stopped watching the NEWS broadcasts about the days strikes. They are lying about actions elsewhere, too. There are riots everywhere, yet we only see Pakistan. We are living in Big Brothers' world. Time to drop all the pretenses to anything else.

Now, in agreement with Carrol, down with gloom. People have a much better understanding of what is going on, except the pseudo left. The old saying "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing" is so true. Turn off your TV, quit thinking about ways to get Osama the mini tyrant. Deal with the big tyrants. Anything esle- is, sorry to be so blunt- racism and imperialist lefitism. It pre-supposes that attacks on "us" cannot be tolerated, but attacks onthem can be fought with petitions. That, is racist to the core. It is Israeli logic. ---[---- I think the best advice I've seen on this issue came from a guest on CNN Europe (we were in Italy the week before and after the attack) who was touted as a specialist on the Persian Gulf area. He said the best way to combat terrorism is to win over the hearts and minds of the Arab Muslim world. How do you do this? Stop backing Israel and work towards a genuine 2-state solution to the Israeli/Palestinian conflict which would try to ensure the security of both sides. End the murderous sanctions against Iraq. Discontinue support for the corrupt oligarchs of the region, and pressure them to make democratic reforms. Not that I expect the US to do any of this, but we're talking about what a productive non-violent response might look like.
