I don't think another atrocity or "terrorist attack" on the U.S. would help grow the ranks of the left. Doing nothing is doing something. And if your alibi was that you weren't in charge and so didn't create the conditions which led to the first or second attack, it wouldn't fly in my book. Doing nothing is doing something. It's a tough position to be in, no doubt about it.
