63 men flogged in Riyadh for harassing girls
RIYADH: Sixty-three young men, including 10 expatriates, have been flogged in public in the Saudi capital for harassing girls in shopping areas and outside schools, a newspaper reported on Thursday.
The men were arrested last week by special squads deployed in markets and at major shopping centers and each given 15 lashes after failing to heed a first warning, Al-Riyadh daily said.
Saudi Arabia, a conservative Muslim state, imposes a strict segregation of the sexes. Women are veiled in black in public and are not allowed to travel without the authorization of a husband or father, or to eat alone in a restaurant. ( AFP )
