Headline in today's Chicago Tribune (MY CAPS):
"Rumsfield denies 'QUAGMIRE,' hints at attacks during Islamic holy month"
Someone on this list a day or so ago noted that "quagmire" was alreay appearing in the media. I still have difficulty in really believing 'they' could be so stupid, but what I called the "Tarbaby Scenario" looks to be an increasing possibilty. Fear about "international credibility" was the fuel that drove the Vietnam War.
