Anti-globalisation meet in Beirut ahead of WTO summit
AFP, Beirut
Anti-globalisation activists will hold two meetings in Beirut before next month's World Trade Organisation (WTO) talks in the Gulf state of Qatar, organizers told AFP on Saturday. The Arab Association of Resistance to Globalization Policies will meet on November 3 and 4 for "two days of reflection (on the) effects of globalization, on the Arab world and the alternatives," said Mirvat Abu Khalil, an executive member of the recently created group based in Beirut.
A second group, the Arab NGO Network for Development, will host a meeting of some 100 international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other groups to discuss WTO programmes between November 5 and 9, said one of its Lebanese members, Adib Nehme.
Radical French farmer leader and leading anti-globalisation activist Jose Bove is scheduled to participate in both meetings, the organizers said.
