Oh heavens no, much to the surprise and disgust of many Houston right-wingers. Locally they currently own about a dozen stations and a couple of years ago they bought the stations of a local xtian right-winger that had the Rush, Dr. Laura, Michael Savage and Michael Reagan franchises. He apparently thought he had a deal to keep on running the stations in his provincial and ideologically pure fashion which included some local talk shows that make the above mentioned shows look bleeding heart liberal and thoughtful.

After about a year, Clear Channel began to make it clear they wanted to increase their audience size (and go after a younger one) and thought that a good first step would be to get rid the shrillest of the local talent. Well Dan Patrick, the former owner quit over this. The afternoon nutcase was fired and his (younger, 'hipper') replacement bad mouthed him on air. Then about two weeks later, the morning drive time loon disappeared and a younger, hipper replacement took to the air.

A few weeks later, the whole nutcase crew reappeared on a lower power station (that has to turn down the watts at night) that Clear Channel had bought as part of the original deal, but then dumped as an uninteresting and not valuable enough property. Dan had bought it and returned the ideologically pure crew to the air! I was so happy, I'm like Pugliese when it comes to AM radio, I love to listen to these idiots and do it as a break from the blandness of NPR and Pacifica.

The part of the story I like the most, is the oh-so-principled Dan Patrick had originally sold out for (what else?) money! And then he, his crew, and the loyal listeners all played victim of the Big Bad Corporation. Well duh, welcome to Capitalism dudes. Shouldn't have been worshiping that Mammon!
