Alan Gilbert's "Must Global Politics Constrain Democracy?", dismantles
the second sentence and is arguably the best Left book on
international relations of the last 20 years. It critically links
neorealism to oligarchy and takes a tough look at contentions of
"moralism" and "common good" arguments. His protagonists are Marx
Thucydides and Pericles.

Damn, another Alan Gilbert book. I've chewed over his, "Democratic
Individuality, " from Cambridge Univ. Press, for a few yrs. in fits and
starts.
And remember hearing that he was in PLP in the late 60's. Hilary Putnam
and he must have had wild conversations then.

P.S. Ian and y'all, comments on Michael Cox on IR?
