Well, war hysteria and the dampening of public debate is not all bad. It appears a number of hot button gay rights bills are being passed while the religious right is a bit on the defensive from its usual denouncing of opponents.

Liberals Using Nation's Crisis as Cover to Promote the Homosexual Agenda, Says Concerned Women for America

WASHINGTON, Sept. 21 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The following was released today by Concerned Women for America:

Amid the talk of unity and moral renewal, liberals are trying to rush through perhaps the most divisive agenda in America: gay rights.

"They are hoping that nobody will dare to oppose them for fear of being called -- what else? -- 'divisive,'" said Robert Knight, director of CWA's Culture and Family Institute.

Between them, Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.) and Jim Kolbe (R-Ariz.) are promoting gay marriage, a gay jobs bill and hate crime measures that promote sexual orientation as equivalent to skin color.

Rep. Kolbe, an open homosexual, engineered a voice vote Thursday by the House appropriations Committee to lift the ban on federal funds for a domestic partners law in the District of Columbia.

The full House will vote Tuesday on the measure. "American taxpayers should not be forced to support counterfeit 'marriage' in D.C.," Knight said. The Education bill, now in conference, contains a hate crimes provision that would result in teachers telling Christian, Jewish and Muslim children that their beliefs about sexual morality are a form of bigotry.

Ted Kennedy announced hearings on Oct. 2 for the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), a bill that would increase federal power over the workplace by adding sexual orientation to civil rights law.

In California, legislators enacted a law on Sept. 12 giving homosexual couples 12 marital benefits. That bill, AB 25, awaits Gov. Gray Davis' signature.

"While the nation mourns and prepares for war, homosexual activists and their allies are trying to capitalize by jamming through their agenda," Knight said.

"President Bush should not have to deal with hot-button social issues right now. Americans need to tell their elected representatives to stop this opportunistic assault on morality."

The Capitol Hill switchboard number is 202-224-3121.
