"I am not a Marxist"

Justin, I dont know in which letter he might have said that but I got the following from L'Humanite' (French CP) website:

<< it is known that at the end of a reading of a text by Jules Guesde presenting him as the good genius who brought consciousness to the working class, Karl Marx had these words to say: 'if it is that that is marxism, then I am not marxist myself>>

I dont know if this was said in a letter or aloud...possibly he said it some other time also, but it makes sense that he might have said this in French in response to a book written by a francophone.

Hope this helps.

Thomas
