Jefferson Heirs Plan Cemetery for Slave's Kin at Monticello

Thomas Jefferson's heirs are proposing the creation of a separate cemetery on the grounds of Monticello, Jefferson's estate in Virginia, for the descendants of Sally Hemings, the slave who may have been the mother of at least one of his children. But they are not ready to let Hemings's descendants into the family association.
One of those descendants criticized the offer on Friday. "Nothing's changed in 200 years, has it?" the descendant, Julia Westerinen of New York City, said after learning of the recommendation by the Monticello Association's membership advisory committee.
