Not in this context. It's hard to imagine Israeli troops going over to the other side or, in light of armed opposition, refusing to fire their guns.

Your scenarios derive from cases where the troops and the insurgents are much closer in identity than zionists and palestinian nationalists.

Dealing with violence at or below the level of rock-throwing is another matter, but in that case you don't really have armed struggle, which was my point.

And how could a critic of armed struggle be anything but 'armchair'? At any rate, there are actually a lot of armchairs I can't fit into.
