``...Yoshie's extrapolation to teacher strikes is bogus; teachers aren't student groups, and academic sanctions like who to expel and which groups can get permits are well within the purview of a University..''. /jordan

Sorry Jordan, you get a zero in UCB Administration 101. All activity defined by the administration as interfering with The Mission is illegitimate and is therefore prohibited. Violating The Mission certainly includes TA strikes, and other activities by academic staff that fail to carry out or prohibit others from carrying out their educational duties. Such activity is in addition of course a violation of work contracts and can result in suspension of pay, disciplinary actions, and dismissal for cause.
As to the what `Berkeleyties say to the main point---protesting in academic buildings', well obviously I think any activity that violates the Mission of the University is absolutely obligatory for students and staff whenever they determine the University Mission interferes with the proper conduct of their lives, education, working conditions, or the general public good. Of course I think such interference by UCB administration is not only frequent and habitual, but routinely pursued in complete abrogation of any conceivable concept of institutional social justice or the public good.
