Report: unemployment low in Moscow
MOSCOW - Registered unemployment among economically active population was 0.7 percent in Moscow in June 2002, the Moscow Statistics Committee reports. According to the Moscow Employment Department, there were 72,400 unemployed people in Moscow at the end of June who were looking for job. Of them, 36,600 people were registered as unemployed. The number of registered unemployed people rose by 6 percent compared with the end of December 2001.
According to the Moscow Employment Department, the unemployment rate was 87,000 in Moscow in May 2002, which is 1.6 percent of the economically active population. The number of the economically active population was 5.526m in the capital in January-May 2002, or 65 percent of the entire population. Of people working at large and medium-sized companies in May 2002, 16 percent worked in manufacture, 12 percent – in education, 11 percent - in science, 9 percent – in healthcare and social sphere, 8 percent – in transport and trade, and 7 percent – in construction.
The number of employees at large and medium-sized companies increased by 2,300 people in May 2002 compared with the same period last year, in commercial sector – by 4,800 people, in the sphere of art and culture – by 4,900 people, and in the banking sector – by 10,400 people.
The entire population of Moscow reached 8.531m by June 1,2002, which is 8,300 people less than on June 1, 2001. /RosBusinessConsulting/
