no wonder the NewsHour is so compelling

NewsHour host Lehrer likes to check eBay for cool bus-related stuff...The show is usually smooth. He's been doing it for 27 years. There are seldom any production surprises...'' (Washington Post)

Gee I wonder why? Do you think it has to do with Lehrer's tenacity and penetrating style?

Typical Lehrer interview:

Lehrer: So, Reichsfuhrer Rumsfelt don't you think your announcement of extermination enmass of those held as terrorist suspect will raise a few eyebrows in Congress?

Rf Rumsfelt: This question has been gone over before, as you know, Jim, and we have addressed those concerns. Our feeling is that the American people simply will not mollycoddle terrorists.

Lehrer: Not to press the point herr Reichsfuhrer but as you know, it's been alleged that many of those held as terrorist suspects were simply turned in by their neighbors in petty personal reprisals. The TIPS program I think has been mentioned. What if they are innocent?

Rf Rumsfelt: Well, Jim we've looked into that possibility, and it just doesn't seem to be the case. Chef der Polizei Ashcroft has assured me of this. We think we have the right people. And I might add, as you know, it's likely those who are raising these charges might themselves be involved. It seems to me part of a dis-information campaign. And it smacks of partisanship in my mind.

Lehrer: So, you are convinced there is really nothing to these concerns, except partisanship and the up and coming elections?

Rf Rumsfelt: Well, yes. All that kind of thing is to be expected.

Lehrer: Well thank you Reichsfuhrer Rumsfelt, for taking out time in your busy schedule.

Rf Rumsfelt: Don't mention it. And thank you Jim.
