Sorokin is suing the Moving Together youth movement over alleged copyright violations.
The writer and his lawyers accused the movement of copyright violations after it circulated books containing excerpts of Sorokin's works during one of its rallies near the Bolshoi Theater.
The writer and the publishing house are seeking 100,000 minimum wages (ten million rubles) in compensation.
Valery Angelov, the movement's lawyer, believes that "Sorokin's law suit is an appropriate step to bring a stop to the writer's criminal prosecution based of the movement's allegations."
The lawyer noted that "the problem now is how many excerpts can be used from a book." "We do not understand why the plaintiff's representatives did not attend the court session. The impression is that they are trying to deliberately drag out the hearings," Angelov said.
"There is a list of writers against whom Moving Together seeks criminal cases and has already submitted corresponding applications. We will wage a campaign against marginal writers, including Eduard Limonov and Bayonne Shiryanov," Angelov said.
