Well, how about locking these folks in a room with a copy of Leopold's Ghost? Or how about getting them to switch off "reality" TV and bone up a bit on the causes of WWI? Or how about just getting them to take a good look at Great Britain -- that champion arch-imperialist civilizer of the 19th century that has devolved into a wizened, aging pugilist of a nation obsessed about "punching above its weight" and unable to provide decent social services?
