It's the pragmatist, patriotic wing of the KGB taking power. If you had told me a few years ago I would ever say this, I would be extremely offended, but God Bless the KGB. They saved the country from agony, despair and slow death.

Presumably with the dollar as a weak way to store value now, Putin's move is well timed.
It is a sort of populist national finance capital initiative initiative, it seems, not accidentally linked with a restriction of bourgeois democratic rights.
