Anyone else but me think that the best way to get corporate America to clean up its act would be to have ALL the humongous federal contractors open their books and certify under penalty of criminal law that their accounting is on the up and up? Of course that would mean principled and regulated scrutiny of private equity and defense companies. No wonder Pitt's predecessor at the SEC, now at Carlyle Group, is out making the rounds talking it up about cleaning up corporate America.

Also, I see Buffet of the sure thing has bet on L-3 Communications, an up and coming spin off of Lockheed and IT venture cap rival of Carlyle Group, being able to pick up on the hundreds of millions of dollars in federal contracts now up for grabs because of the GlobalCrossing and WorldCom debacles. I think the Bush-Baker-Carlucci axis of influence peddling and ill-gotten gains will have something to say about that. Now that's what I like about the American way: it will even look like 'competition' , 'entrepreneurial spirit' and 'patriotism'.
