U.S. Envoy Trying to Undermine Tehran-Kabul Ties

TEHRAN -- Zalmy Khalilzad, U.S special envoy to Afghanistan, claimed that the leadership in Iran is afraid of the situation in Afghanistan and fear that what is emerging there, if it works, would be a problem for Iran potentially, on Saturday.

Therefore, quoting a foreign source, it argued that U.S officials are laying the bases for causing problems and, in some cases, already are causing problems in Afghanistan.

It said this is not the first time that baseless allegations are levelled against Iran.

In a nonsensical statement a few months ago, Khalilzad accused Iran of issuing permission for the Taleban and Al-Qaeda leaders to transit through the country on their way to other parts of the world.

No one would believe the claims as throughout the rule of the Taleban Iran never recognized the group and it is a clear that Iran was among the first victims when they group came to power, the daily said.

This notoriously inhuman militia martyred ten Iranian diplomats and a reporter in Mazar-i-sharif on August 8, it recalled.

seven months after the establishment of the transitional government in afghanistan and contrary to the positive statements made by Hamid Karzai, the United Nations, and the EU on Iran's cooperation with the Afghan provisional government Khalilzad once again repeats his baseless claims to undermine Iran-Afghanistan relations, it said.

One of the priorities of Iranian foreign policy is to strengthen cooperation with other countries, particularly neighbors.

Iran supports peace and stability in Afghanistan knowing it will be in the interest of regional development and international peace and security, it argued.

Moreover, "A strong government in Kabul will be an outstanding bulwark against drug trafficking which is a menace to Iran's social security," it pointed out.

Today, "The main cause of instability in Afghanistan is the U.S military presence that has already led to the assassination of civilians in Urozgan and other places.

"This is why the Afghan people call for the withdrawal of the U.S troops from their country," It said.

The U.S has dislodged many popular government through coups and war to pursue washingtong's policies, it noted.

The us envoy will not be able to undermine iran-afghan ties through baseless accusations because the afghans know the motives behind his remarks, it concluded.
