Today's close in the S&P 500 is 46.3% off its 3/24/00 high. That's a
hair behind the 10/3/74 low in the last serious bear market, -48.2%.
It took 630 days to make the low in 1973-74, and 850 to get to
today's. But there's a way to go before matching the low of 5/32
(using monthly rather than daily data): -82.3%
The Nasdaq is 74.6% off its 3/10/00 high. The Dow is off a mere 33.6%
from its 1/14/00 high.
The bull market was a big political, social, and cultural phenomenon.
The bear market probably will be too. WITBD?
