I've noticed that lawyers' junior partners in crime -- PR operatives, of whom I am one -- also engage in immense amounts of self-congratulation because of the heroic number of hours they work. Somehow, sheer fatigue is supposed to redeem the fact that the work performed is basically bullshit detrimental to the public interest. Curious logic indeed, but no doubt derivative of the (completely twisted) Protestant work ethic.
