Yesterday, I enjoyed listening to Max Elbaum's talk (given at the anti-war/global justice movements panel discussion at Solidarity's national convention in Pittsburgh). Elbaum is the author of _Revolution in the Air: Sixties Radicals Turn to Lenin, Mao and Che_ (@ <http://www.versobooks.com/books/cdef/elbaum_rita.shtml>) and a staff member of _War Times_ (@ <http://www.war-times.org/>), among other things. He explained the role and target audience of _War Times_ very well. The target audience of _War Times_ are "soft opponents and soft supporters" of the "war on terrorism," and that is why it doesn't have anything new for readers (because of their study and activism) already well versed in the history and current state of US imperialism. _War Times_ is in print, not just on the Net, because it is meant to be a tool for anti-war activism, what already committed activists could _hand_ to "soft opponents and soft supporters" of the war. For this purpose and audience, _War Times_ is well written and produced. What they need is money, to keep their good work going. To make a donation to _War Times_ on-line, go to <https://www.egrants.org/donate/1463/index.cfm?ID=2510-0|1463-0>; to donate by mail, go to <http://www.war-times.org/donatem.htm>.

Max Elbaum is also a wonderful public speaker. Invite him to give a talk about _Revolution in the Air_, _War Times_, and activism in your town!

Now, what about other left/liberal publications? Do they also have as clearly conceived purposes and target audiences as _War Times_ does? -- Yoshie
