I don't know. There are as many kinds of writing as there things to write about and people who write. One interesting exercise is to try to write about physical science or mathematics and make it make sense. A good example is Louis de Broglie's popularize version of pre-60s quantum mechanics (forgot the titles). There are no formulas, and yet he manages to explain it pretty well.
