Kiev, 9 March: More than half of Ukraine's population favours a union with Russia and Belarus, according to a poll conducted by the Kiev-based Public Opinion Foundation.
It shows that 54 per cent of respondents believe that their life will improve if such a union is created. At the same time, 35 per cent think that the Ukrainian people would be better off within the European Union.
Sociologists say that 43 per cent of people in the country support politicians who call for integration with Russia. About 40 per cent like politicians who equally support both integration with Russia and the West. And only 11 per cent prefer a Western-oriented policy.
