Self-Organization and Identification of Web Communities.

Kevin, I am working towards a project somewhat similar to the one below could you supply some more information.

The project I have in mind begins with trying to construct an encapsulated communist computer environment part hosted on the web, where not just information and debate but also agaitational and organisational software is integrated.

I am still working on the initial documents and have been holding off until some industry announcements (due soon) come out.

For those interested the technical material I am trying to deal with is:

XML (naturally enough who is not).

The Amiga/Taos virtual processor environment (hosted and hardware agnostic - a system which can be set up in a large number of situations - Linux, Windows, Macs (soon), and as a standalone).

A fragmented code model which uses scripts to glue together reusable code in the fomr of easy to edit GUIs. This I have been working on for seven years with a small company Lestec - MAID Modular and Integrated Design is the product of this (it uses REXX as the glue).

A universal ID system so that all the material and communications within the world wide environment can be transfered across mediums without chaos - the system I am playing with is simple a Bae64 rendition of the messageid of Emails (ie write a document get an id and the id becomes part of a catalog).

There is more to it than this naturally, but the aim (it is called The Red Centenary Project 2017) is not only to create an activist environment, but also to try and get it into the hands of those engaged in struggle. I know a laughably ambitious aim but then again I place it within a framework of 15 years.

I was not intending to mention this widely, but the post below touched on so many aspects I that it seemed silly to miss the opportunity.

BY all means treat me like a nut on this. I am serious (it has been something I have been working toards since the mid 1980s) but there is little reason to take my word for it. I would be interested if anyone at all sees anything interesting in either my post or Kevins.

Greg

Sorry, I don't have an IEEE account, but I know some of you are members...sounds like an interesting work...

Millions of individuals operating independently author the Web's information. Despite its decentralized nature, the authors' work shows that the Web self-organizes and its link structure allows efficient identification of communities. This is significant because no central authority or process governs hyperlink formation and structure.A Web community is a collection of Web pages in which each member page has more hyperlinks within the community than outside it. Compared to previous methods of finding related Web pages, the authors describe an approach that retains the transparency of methods such as cocitation and bibliographic coupling in explaining why pages belong to a community, yet can identify Web communities of arbitrary dimensions. Applications of their method include creating improved search engines, content filtering, and objective analysis of Web content and the relationships between Web communities.
