I am not unsympathetic to the moral concerns of vegetarians/vegans. However, if you pursue the line of reasoning far enough, you have to ask about the morality of killing plants. After all, they are living beings too, aren't they? And just because they do not have a complex nervous system, does that mean they should be eaten?
Unfortunately animal life feeds on life. I dont see any way around it, unless you propose attempting inedia...some sort of human photosynthesis.
I say this, but I can easily pull a carrot out of the ground, but I could never (under normal circumstances) kill a pig myself to eat. What a hypocrite I am!
Anyway, ALL life is sacred and not just animal life.
