Let me know if you remember the book title later.

High rates of domestic violence appear to be found among police officers as well:

***** LAPD Confidential video 1999 13 mins.

A frightening account by CBS' "60 Minutes" [aired on 13 February 2000 -- you can buy it at <http://store.cbs.com/video.php?itemID=1010&showID=22>] of how a major U.S. police department covers up the criminal activity of its members. Focuses on the extremely high rate of domestic violence committed by members of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). In the course reviewing confidential LAPD internal files as part of a lawsuit brought by the family of a murdered wife, the family's lawyer found out that of the 79 cases of serious domestic assaults by officers, none had ever been arrested and that one out of 3 of them had been promoted. A former Portland, Oregon chief of police tells Mike Wallace that 40% of police officers have admitted using force in their homes and that the blue wall of silence usually protects these officers. When the lawyer broke his oath of secrecy to release his confidential research he was charged in federal court with criminal contempt but the LAPD did create a special unit to deal with cases of domestic violence involving police officers. Excellent information and production quality....
