I use Netscape 4.7. Twice I switched to Netscape 6.x and the mail program's clumsiness (or at least clumsiness at first sight) so horrified me that I went back to 4.7. Can't you make it readable by 4.7?
Fussell's politics, class analysis, etc. may be fucked up, but he wrote magnificent books on WW 1 & WW 2. He also coedited a really magnificent anthology of 18th c. literature.
