... Heartfield. Prior to being a mere catalyst for the faux-progressive ravings of Living Marxism alumni, Antarctica was the setting for genuine heroics by early explorers like Scott, Shackleton and Mawson.

The Shackleton saga is particularly inspiring because Shackleton and his men all managed to survive through a show of extraordinary courage, immense skill, and for the most part common decency. Now that military valor is all the rage again, it's wonderful to be reminded of heroics that don't involve slaughtering other people.
