They can't hate the new metropoles, because they can't see them. Deep down, they hate themselves, so they had to find the smallest, weakest targets they could find, as proxy mirror-images -- anagrams of the biggest rogue state of them all, namely the US. Even if you told them, they couldn't *know* this. The dialectical irony of history is that, conversely, the Chinese developmental state knows this, without even being told.
