I'm not a Leninist (to say the least!), but it seems misguided to me to dismiss him as an "autocrat." He did a lot of high-handed things in the Civil War, but it was a civil war, and those are difficult circumstances. I recall that one revered Abraham Lincoln suspended habeas corpus during our own civil war. And it's not Lenin's fault that he was stuffed. He disapproved of that sort of thing. jks
