Zionism and Anti-Zionism

Sharon didn't speak in support of a Palestinian state. He just didn't want Likud to make it their official stand that no Palestinian state would be allowed.

He stated that an official stand as this would increase international pressure against Israel and narrow his manuvering abilities in negotiation on the final status agreement with the Palestinians.

He would rather Palestinian statehood be left an open theoretical possibility which is simply never enacted, rather than simplistically putting all of your ideological cards on the table for everyone to see.
