And we have had several threads on this list (and the point has been discussed on other lists too) that conspiracy theories are in effect apologies for imperialism.

CB: This overgeneralization is very harmful to the left today. To ignore the mundane corruption and plots of imperialism is to ignore the first steps to the average person's disaffection with the system. Few people attend to the abstract theory of imperialism, but many are interested in its concrete machinations.
