Superb stuff from Rashid, as usual. Worth calling attention to:

"[Musharraf] also does not seem to recognize that Islamic militants are a threat to internal and regional stability, but he does realize that a concerted crackdown could alienate his support base in the army and intelligence services."

The one support base that really counts in Pakistani politics!
