MOSCOW (AP) - Top Iranian and Russian diplomats met Thursday for talks expected to focus on nuclear nonproliferation and other security issues.
The meeting between Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammed Jawad Zarif and his Russian counterpart Georgy Mamedov came a week after U.S. President George W. Bush pressed Russia's Vladimir Putin over Moscow's nuclear assistance to Iran. Washington says the assistance in building a nuclear power plant could help Tehran in its missile program, a charge Russian officials have denied.
The U.S. concerns were a key topic during last week's summit between Putin and Bush.
The ITAR-Tass and Interfax news agencies said nonproliferation would top the agenda at Thursday's meeting.
