MOSCOW (AP) - Two men with shaved heads attacked a 16-year-old Jewish boy in Moscow, breaking his nose, an expert on anti-Semitism said Wednesday.
The victim, Yankele Vershubsky, is the son of a rabbi in Voronezh, a city 475 kilometers (300 miles) south of Moscow, said Alexander Axelrod, an expert with the Anti-Defamation League. Vershubsky and his father are both U.S. citizens, NTV television reported.
Vershubsky told NTV that his attackers fled after he made a motion with his hand as if he was going to take something out of his bag.
The assault was the second case of anti-Semitism in Moscow in two days.
On Monday, a woman was severely injured in an explosion when she attempted to knock down a booby-trapped anti-Semitic sign along a road outside the city.
"It's all happening just after the U.S.-Russia summit when they said that anti-Semitism in Russia had abated," Axelrod said.
Russian skinheads have also been blamed for a slew of recent attacks on dark-skinned foreigners or residents of southern Russia.
