appeal

With Doug's permission, I'm taking the liberty of making the following appeal.

Election day is one week from tomorrow. The Green Party congressional campaign in central Illinois has already attracted notice by overcoming what are practically the most restrictive laws in the US regarding third parties. We have a place on the ballot against a first-term Republican incumbent whom the Democrats were not going to challenge. (After we achieved ballot states, the Democratic organization rushed in a token candidate.) We emphasize the Green principles of ecological wisdom, non-violence, social justice, and grassroots democracy. Against the two pro-war, pro-business, anti-worker and anti-environment parties, we argue for such things as opposition to the war in Iraq, universal health care, and corporate regulation. Our detailed platform is available at <www.carlforcongress.org>.

But we can't run a Coke/Pepsi marketing campaign as our opponents do -- we have to explain our positions, which produce a good deal of support when we do. In the last week of the campaign, we are doing as much electronic advertising as we can possibly afford -- you can see examples (I think quite brilliant) of our TV ads on the web-site. But we're strapped for cash to place these ads. If you're willing send anything at all to the address below, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks, CGE

"There are no magic answers, no miraculous methods to

overcome the problems we face, just the familiar ones:

honest search for understanding, education, organization,

action that raises the cost of state violence for its

perpetrators or that lays the basis for institutional change

-- and the kind of commitment that will persist despite the

temptations of disillusionment, despite many failures and

only limited successes, inspired by the hope of a brighter

future." --Noam Chomsky
