In fairness, the sentence was deplorable, inspite a relevant article I can otherwise sympathize with. What I find the most distressing about his recent critique of the American and British Left is that he regularly gets so bloody hamfisted (opposing NATO in Kosovo = supporting Milosevic, blame Saddam not sanctions, etc.), when otherwise he's on target. I never bought Noam Chomsky's charge that Hitchens doesn't mean what he's saying about the Left.
