- Aachen peace prize awarded
Aachen. The American congresswoman Barbara Lee and educationalist Bernhard Nolz have been awarded the 2002 Aachen peace prize. According to the award committee, Lee won the prize because she received death threats and insults after rejecting the idea of war against Iraq in US congress. Nolz got the award because he lost his job as a teacher after holding a speech to students, pleading against the war and blind loyalty to the USA. Both winners warned for restrictions of civil rights and the right to freedom after the attacks of September 11th.
