I'm just back, but I think someone here mentioned Jon Stewart and the "Daily
Show," which, when on target (and it often is), is really fucking funny --
and smart. Problem is, those humorists who are nominally "left" in instinct
and outlook as well as in sympathy are usually put-off by the very
self-righteousness you deplore. Can't tell you how many times, at WBAI and
elsewhere, I was lectured to by the Pious and Evolved for my "insensitivity"
and "frivolous" takes on the madness that surrounds us. And let's not start
with the dour Socialist Scholars Conference . . . zzzzzzzzzzzzz . . . .
