That was in '65 when he taught at Rutgers. Bacame an issue in that yrs. gubernatorial race. By '69, Genovese at the AHA convention was opposing the anti-war slate of Staughton Lynd. "Put them down!,"said Eugene. (See Peter Novick's brilliant book on US historiography and objectivity.)

In the latest National Interest in a piece on Eric Foner and F. Furet http://www.frenchculture.org/books/release/history/furet.html , John Patrick Diggins quotes Eugene circa '69 on anti-war hippies, "Stalin would have known what to do with them." Michael Pugliese
