Hoo-Boy...Where to begin? Did you ever hear of something called the power structure? The definition of "crime" depends on them too. If I were elected to be the Socialist president of the US, don't you think that there would be people in the US gov who would go nuts and bomb the shit out of me and my supporters? Do we "deserve that", by your logic? Shouldn't I know that socialism is a crime to the "American Way of Life" and that I'm a threat that needs to be dealt with? Of course it doesn't have to be that dramatic. They don't have to bomb me. The capitalists could 'go on strike', like the hero of Rand.
There is a lot to be done before any change can happen in America, and it's not because the voting public choose it. Apathy, I think comes from the idea that we as people CAN'T change anything. I don't think its hopeless, but when is revolution ever as easy as skipping through a park, or in the case of voting, by pulling a lever? To say that voting American's "deserve it" is stupid, stupid stupid...
